Choreographer Amy Marshall and Executive Director Chad Levy co-founded the Amy Marshall Dance Company in 2000 in order to realize a vision of dance theater as a visual metaphor for the human spirit. Ms. Marshall’s choreography pays tribute to both the beauty and tribulations of life’s experiences through dramatic movement. The work’s emotional structure explodes across the stage with dramatic confrontation and then suddenly resolves itself into a poignancy of classical dimensions. The virtuosic performance of the dancers leaves audiences awed and delighted.
During the past twenty years, the Amy Marshall Dance Company has performed and taught across North America, Europe and Asia. Through these performances, master classes and dance workshops, the company has inspired audiences and invigorated young dancers in a way that will both challenge and reward them all for years to come.
A note from the choreographer
Dance is referred to by many as a universal language. For as long as I can remember, I have been enamored with how dance can articulate life’s complexities in a way that goes far beneath the surface. My mission, as Artistic Director for the Amy Marshall Dance Company, is to educate and inspire people of all ages through the art of dance. As a choreographer, I am committed to creating and presenting outstanding performances with extraordinary energy and to providing audiences with a positive experience. As an educator, I strive to communicate and promote dance in a manner accessible to all people.
My expectation, which drives the work of my company, is that we can make a difference to the world of dance and to the people that come to the theater. My company brings forth a cohesive unit that exemplifies technical precision, elegance, and heart. Facilitating the growth of modern dance through performances and educational outreach is my ultimate goal. The work combines my background in theater, classical dance, and athletics. Fueled by my love for exciting music, I strive to provide audiences with themes and movement that have impact and make a difference in people’s lives.
